Pneumococcal Meningitis - The Vaccine
Pneumococcal Meningitis is currently the second most common form of the disease and is fatal in around 20% of case. The NHS has included this vaccination against Meningitis as part of its routine immunisation programme for infants in September 2006 for all children up to 24 months old. However this did not include those children aged 2 years old and over.
This means that most UK children who were over 2 years old when the NHS introduced Pneumococcal Meningitis to its immunisation programme in 2006 need immunising.
A single injection is required for over 2 years old.
