The Disease
Regardless of hygiene practises, almost every child worldwide will have had at least one rotavirus infection before he or she is five years old.
Rotavirus, a common and highly contagious infection causes severe vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, fever and dehydration in young children. Some children have only mild symptoms, while others are affected more severely.
Vaccination is the only viable measure to prevent rotavirus illness.
