Too many shots for young children?
Children receive over 35 shots before kindergarten. According toU.S. News and World Report
, thevaccine schedule
that most pediatricians follow, recommended by theCDC
, takes a one size fits all approach. Babies and young children, as many parents already know, are encouraged to follow the CDC vaccine schedule. This schedule provides for as many as 12 shots in the first 6 months of life. Each shot may include a vaccine for multiple diseases.
Although these vaccines are extremely important and are recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as the CDC, some parents, including myself, are concerned about the impact multiple vaccines may have on a small child's immune system.
